Diary of Lois Elaine Jelin: Entry One Hundred Twenty-Nine

Entry One Hundred Twenty-Nine

Sunday Fri., June 8               Weather marked half Clear, half Cloudy.

Dear Diary,

Signed annuals all day. Lynn & Ricky picked me up at about 6:35 & we went to Bob’s party. I didn’t enjoy it too very much because Bob was busy with everyone. But when he took me home, it changed everything. I was supposed to be in before 1:00. Arrived home at 1:05 but didn’t go in till after 2:00. We had the most wonderful talk—all about everything. I don’t think he likes me as much as I like him but he does like me some. I never thought I would talk to him like that.

Mommie waited up for me & was made, she said I couldn’t go out anymore.

I told Bob I’d make him a pair of cargyles.

Dear Diary,

Got my visitor. Was in health office all morning.

Harvey didn’t ask me about Fri & I didn’t say anything. Jim Grey & Marian Holman are going to Bob’s party too.

Got our Annuals & my pic isn’t even in it. Tom Meng, Norman (ugh) Hempling & Audrey Silverstone came over after school for milk & cookies.

I washed my hair. Wrote Jean a letter.

Friday Wed., June 6             Weather marked half Clear, half Cloudy.

Dear Diary,

Today in Spanish Harvey said that Art had told him that he made me……. & he said we did things on the night of the Sr. Prom. Dave Francisco, Jim Pedit, Ray Martin & Harvey were talking about it & then Dave & Harvey said that they didn’t know that I was that kind of a girl etc  & then Harvey asked me out.

Damn it! After I waited so long for him to ask me out it has to be like this. I told him I would tell him tomorrow. Bob called & asked me to his party & told him yes. Ricky & Lynn are going to pick me up.

Sunday Fri., May 11             Weather marked as Clear.

Dear Diary,

My foot feels better. Nothing much in school. Lynn & I started letters to Frank and Frenchy. They’re exactly alike. Went out with Bob. We went bowling—he won 2 games, I won 1. Then we played miniture golf. He won. Then we had frosties. Then we rode around. Went past V.N.H.S. then we parked. Kissed twice. Came home and he kissed me good-night. He told me that I kiss warm. So does he. I had a keen time. I hope he asks me out again. Got home 7 min to midnight.

Monday Sat., May 5                           Weather marked as Clear

Dear Diary,

Went to Hollywood with Lynn. Coming home we met 2 sailors—Frank Hunter and Chuck Burke. We gave them our addresses, & they gave us their pictures & addresses.

Went on double date—Lynn, Ricky & Bob & me. Saw “The Thing” went to drive in had parfay malts. Parked. Necked. Bob asked me out for next Friday. Slept over at Lynns, got in a 2:30 a.m.

I was all wrong about Bob. I thought he was a drip but he turn out real nice. When we were parked, Ricky & Lynn kept making remarks about us. So Bob says to me “How about going out next weekend with me, without Ricky or Lynn.” Gads was I suprized! I said yes!!!!

Editorial Note:

The movie Lois saw on her double date was the 1951 Howard Hawks feature “The Thing From Another World.” Below is the original movie trailer that, perhaps, enticed Lois and her friends to purchase tickets.
