Dear Diary,

Hal called. He talked too much as usual. He’s a nice guy but he talks & talks & then don’t do nothin’. At lunch Birch was there. He’s sweet. I wore his jacket & he carried my books.

Friday My Birthday, May 2              Weather marked as Clear

Dear Diary,

Harvey can’t go Sat. nite so I guess (although I don’t want to) I’ll have to go with Bob. I got a telegram for my birthday a letter from Hal & some cards. Mom got me a gorgeous shirt & blouse & Bubie some meterial.

Went bowling. Had loads of fun sending notes to & from Birch (he was our pin boy) in the bowling balles. Hi Talent—we tied Manual Arts.

Dear Diary,

Refer to April 22.

I know I shouldn’t cause its useless but I guess every girl likes someone whome she hasn’t a chance with. In my case its “Harvey Rootland.” he’s in my second period & is only one grade ahead of me is ‘bout 5’ 10” or 11” Black hair (or real dark brown) eyes–I don’t know…yet…! Hes real good looking and “my” type (at least I think so).

Here is a photograph of the dashing Harvey Rootland from his 1953 Van Nuys Senior High yearbook:

Dear Diary,

Today Harriet & I were walking through the hall & I was telling Harry I was disappointed because Robert didn’t come to school when Robert came down the stairs with big “Hello” & grins form me!! I said hello & walked on, Harry looked at me & said, “Lois! Your face is real red.” (I wonder if I really like him or if its just a silly infatuation???)

Bubie gave me a beautiful Mezuza for graduation.
