Diary of Lois Elaine Jelin: Entry Twenty-Two

Entry Twenty-Two

Wednesday, January 22                                        Weather marked as Clear.

Dear Diary,

Today Harriet & I were walking through the hall & I was telling Harry I was disappointed because Robert didn’t come to school when Robert came down the stairs with big “Hello” & grins form me!! I said hello & walked on, Harry looked at me & said, “Lois! Your face is real red.” (I wonder if I really like him or if its just a silly infatuation???)

Bubie gave me a beautiful Mezuza for graduation.

  1. Lois’s Bubie is most likely her mother’s mother, Minnie (Falik) Greenberg. Minnie and her husband, Isaac, were born in Russia, but moved to Los Angeles as early as 1920. Isaac owned a laundry. Lois and her parents lived with Isaac & Minnie for the first few years of Lois’s life, so the families were likely very close.

Lois’s other Bubie was Sadie (Tonkonogy) Jelinski, but she died before Lois was born. Lois’s grandfather, Benjamin Jelinski, remarried a woman named Blanche in 1934. They also lived in the Los Angeles area.
