Diary of Lois Elaine Jelin: Entry One Hundred Thirty

Entry One Hundred Thirty

Monday, June 9                    Weather marked as Clear.

Dear Diary

Darn! I cannot get Bob out of mind. I’m all confused. I wish I could go to Mommie but, maybe, I’m afraid of what she’ll tell me. I hope everything works out because if it doesn’t I’ll go crazy.

I baby sat for Roz. I made that blue dress—all I have to do now is put in the zipper & the sleaves. Got home 2:15 & stayed up till 3:30 to clean up after Mommie’s guests.

Dear Diary,

Signed annuals all day. Lynn & Ricky picked me up at about 6:35 & we went to Bob’s party. I didn’t enjoy it too very much because Bob was busy with everyone. But when he took me home, it changed everything. I was supposed to be in before 1:00. Arrived home at 1:05 but didn’t go in till after 2:00. We had the most wonderful talk—all about everything. I don’t think he likes me as much as I like him but he does like me some. I never thought I would talk to him like that.

Mommie waited up for me & was made, she said I couldn’t go out anymore.

I told Bob I’d make him a pair of cargyles.

Dear Diary,

Got my visitor. Was in health office all morning.

Harvey didn’t ask me about Fri & I didn’t say anything. Jim Grey & Marian Holman are going to Bob’s party too.

Got our Annuals & my pic isn’t even in it. Tom Meng, Norman (ugh) Hempling & Audrey Silverstone came over after school for milk & cookies.

I washed my hair. Wrote Jean a letter.

Dear Diary,

Today in Spanish Harvey said that Art had told him that he made me……. & he said we did things on the night of the Sr. Prom. Dave Francisco, Jim Pedit, Ray Martin & Harvey were talking about it & then Dave & Harvey said that they didn’t know that I was that kind of a girl etc  & then Harvey asked me out.

Damn it! After I waited so long for him to ask me out it has to be like this. I told him I would tell him tomorrow. Bob called & asked me to his party & told him yes. Ricky & Lynn are going to pick me up.

We also went to Erwin’s house. We had a real fine time. We had a chicken fight. Tom M. & Art against Erwin & me. After that they buried me. Oy Oy Oy Neyez Mire. We made pyrimeds & Erwin sprayed me with the water 5 million times. My [illegible] kept falling.

Editorial Note:

Seen below is the 1953 class photograph of Lois’ friend, Audrey. Who knew such nice looking girls would ditch school to hang out with a bunch of boys at the beach?!

Dear Diary,

Went to Beauty Salon & got my hair cut & etc.

Senior Prom. It was fine except—first of all I looked real cute. The other girl was Elaine (the girl Bob took to Lynns party) she’s real nice. We had a nice time at the Prom we left after 11:00 and when to a naughty 90 show which was naughty & to the Flamingo. Art (going home) infact all night he wouldn’t let up kissing that is. Then after we took Elaine home I pretended I was sleeping & Art petted. It was frightening & yet soothing. I’m all mixed up. I should have said something but I couldn’t. He started to un-zipper my dress so I pretend to wake-up. If possible—I’ll never go out with Art again—I’m afraid.
